What Is a Swamp Cooler?
A swamp cooler - or evaporative cooler - is an air-conditioning unit that uses water as a cooling agent. Water is supplied to the unit through a 1/4" copper line. The water is then pumped to the pads, which are situated on the inside panel. A fan pulls outside air through the damped cooler pads and distributes the cool air through the house. Normally, you can expect the temperature of your house to be lowered by 15-20% when using a swamp cooler. The effectiveness depends on the type of pads, the temperature of the water source, and the quality of the unit.
Maintaining Your Swamp Cooler
It is important to get your swamp cooler services before the start of the summer season. We maintain and service all major brands. Our technicians remove the housing windows and thoroughly wash the pads to remove dust and dirt. It is recommended that you change these pads every three years. We also wash the housing reservoir and refill it with clean water, check and adjust the fan belt, and oil the bearing on the fan shaft. Taking these steps will ensure reliable, efficient operation all summer long. To avoid broken lines during the winter months, we recommend disconnecting the swamp cooler from the water source and draining it in the fall.
